Frogger 2: Swampy's Revenge On SynTax CD 2 Demo reviewed by Sue "What's this?" the readers cried. "An arcade game?" Well, yes, it is. I was surprised too that I ended up playing it and enjoying it. I happened to be checking out a cover CD which had a few strategy games on it when I spotted the name Frogger 2. Now I always enjoyed Frogger games back on the Speccy so I was interested to see how the game had changed in almost 20 years. In the original game, all you had to do was get the frog to hop across a road, dodging cars and vans, then cross a river hopping on logs and turtles but avoiding alligators. Boy, how it's changed! Now the aim is collect five lost baby frogs on each level. Quite a lot of thought is needed to solve each level so I think it is worthy of including in SynTax. Besides which, it was fun! The first level of the demo takes place in a garden. Butterflies flit around and will give you bonuses of extra lives or super hops. There are also coins to collect which give a bonus at the end of the level if you've got all of them. If you miss some you're told how many you've missed so you can try to find more next time. There are 25 on the first level. But there are also things to avoid. In the garden there are lawnmowers trying to chop Swampy up, or bees wanting to sting him. On the next level, which is in a haunted house, there are ghosts, walking hands and suits of armour with axes trying to dispatch him. It isn't an easy life being a frog. I haven't managed to solve one bit in the second level where I'm getting chased by a glowing beastie, so I don't know how much more there is to the demo. The view tilts when you enter enclosed spaces and secret areas, making it easier to see what's going on. The full game has multiplayer levels, more worlds to explore, extra super-froggy powers. Great fun. - o -
