The Jdbgmgr.exe Hoax Virus Warning Information collected by Sue Yes, another hoax virus is doing the rounds. It was first reported in April but I only heard about it recently when a friend of mine asked about it. Like the sulfnbk.exe hoax, the warning also suggests you delete a valid Windows file. In this case the file, Jdbgmgr.exe, is a Java debugging file, so for most of us it wouldn't be a problem if we deleted it. The emailed warning that comes will be along these lines. The person contacting you tells you the virus is being spread through the address book and isn't detected by either McAfee or Norton (that alone should make you suspicious!). It stays quiet on your system for 14 days before damaging it. You can tell if the file jdbgmgr.exe is infected because it will have an icon like a teddy bear (yes, this is its normal icon). So, if you're warned about this 'virus' ignore it and tell the person who sent it that it's a hoax. Unfortunately a hoax like this can cause as much potential damage as a real virus when people delete files from their computer in a panic. - o -
