Physicus - getting started Taken from the UHS file General Tips If you have the hard disk space, I highly recommend the full installation so you won't have to swap CDs every time you want to read your laptop. Physicus does not support autorun, so you will have to run it yourself. It will only run from CD 1. Stop in every scene and see if you can go left, right, up, down, back, or around to the left or right. There might be a whole area you missed because you didn't realize you could go left. During most puzzles, a link will be shown at the upper right to the section on the laptop that might be helpful. Read it; these links are really very interesting. Your cursor turns into a box with a green line if you can pick something up (scan it). A box with a red line means you can put something down there. To place something, find it on the display at lower right using the arrows. Click on its picture, then drag the created object to where you want it. First steps: Where can I go here? Through the gate and into the little house is all that's available now. Click on the door handle to open the door to the house. Once you've done what you need to do in the house, a path opens up between the pink rocks beside the house. What do I do in the house? Go left and forward to the desk and pick up the laptop. Smithy: How do I get here? From the path between the rocks by the house at the beginning, go forward five times, then left when a butterfly flitters by and you see a stone arch ahead. From the locked house area, go back down the path through the stone arch, and you'll see the smithy on the right. Where can I go in the smithy? The smithy is the first building on your left. Go forward and play with the press. Read about levers in the Mechanics section on your laptop. To leave the press screen, click to the left of the weights table, where you get a down arrow. To the left of the press is a ladder you can go up. You can go around to the right and get behind the furnace. Before you leave, go right at the door; there's something on the shelf that can be scanned. Eventually, you'll make a weight using the press. How do I make a six kg weight? There aren't any just lying around. But there are some 2kg weights just lying around. You need three, obviously. Where are the three 2kg weights? One is in the clock in the dining hall. One is at the bottom of the stairs in the wrecked ship. One is behind the generator in the windmill. But you can't just stick all three to the magnet. You'll have to make one big weight out of the three. Remember the press in the smithy? First you must raise the hammer. How do I raise the hammer? Pull the handle on the press (next to where it says 100 kg). Put the right weight in the right slot to make the lever stay flat. Place the 20 kg weight in the fifth slot from the left (third from right). The hammer will drop if you leave the smithy, so you'll have to do it again. And have melted the three 2 kg weights in the furnace. How do I melt the weights? Go up the ladder to the furnace. Looking at the furnace, go up to see the basket and put the weights in. Go down to see the furnace again. Push fire. Hmmm. Fire doesn't work. There must not be any fuel. Behind the furnace is a wheel. Turn it. Now fire works. Pull the handle and the melted weights flow down to the press; you'll hear a thunk. Go back down to the press to see the hot metal. Press the molten metal by dropping the hammer (click the lever on the press). Raise the hammer again to release the weight. Go forward to scan the weight. - o -
