SIMON THE SORCERER 3D Reviewed by Stefan Herber This cannot be classed as a review as I only played about a third of the game before giving up. It's more of a warning to those of you out there thinking of buying it. DON'T. The game had its production problems and took nearly two years to be released; as a result I suspect that it ended up as a half-finished concoction. After starting the game I had my system upgraded and found that it was incompatible with my Geforce 4800 card. Rumour has it that it is incompatible with all the ATI cards as well. So what is it compatible with? The patch which is nearly as big as the game itself didn't help. Simon 1 was the first adventure game I completed without a walkthrough and was best described as a B version of "Monkey Island". Simon 2 was much longer but less good; I suspect 3D is bigger still as two weeks into playing I'd only made Chapter 3. The character is as unpleasant as he ever was; the puzzles are often sick (one involves a gnome shooting contest where the gnome is the arrow) but I persevered. Eventually I disabled my video card in an attempt to finish the game but it ran like a snail and as it's keyboard controlled, the difficulty experienced just moving the character became too much. If it runs on your system, good luck. If another patch comes out I might just try again- but I doubt it. - o -
