Malinche Entertainment www.malinche.net Visited by Sue I meant to tell you about this site last issue but totally forgot. I heard about it when I was contacted by its editor, Howard Sherman. He'd found the SynTax site and suggested a reciprocal link which I readily agreed to after seeing his site. So, why should SynTax and Malinche have an interest in each other's sites? Malinche is far from being a retro site but they do have a strong interest in adventures, including text adventures. They've released one commercially called Pentari: First Light (PFL). I have a game called Pentari by the same author on a SynTax disk which Dorothy sent a solution in for back in Issue 66. I assume this is the prequel mentioned on the site. There's a demo for PFL available for download. The full game has almost 300 rooms and comes on a CD with snazzy packaging. Next issue I'll check out the demo and tell you what it's like. Interestingly Howard came to the UK and researched some locations over here for the game, one of which was Chislehurst Caves. This is a 22 mile underground system which is only a couple of miles from here. It became a refuge for many Londoners during WW2 when they lived in the tunnels to escape Germany's bombing raids. Malinche have other games to download. Baltimore:24 was Howard's first foray into IF. He's also released an amusing work-related IF game called The Bastard Operator from Hell - that also sounds worth a look! That was actually written by someone else, Simon Travaglia of http://bofh.ntk.net Malinche are currently working on Greystone, a muder mystery set in a psychiatric hospital. It's due for release in October and is based on a real hospital in New Jersey. The game is illustrated with atmospheric photos of the institution. More news as I get it. So check out the site and see what they have to offer. And if you want to review any of their games for SynTax, I'll be very happy! - o -
