RWAP Software http://hometown.aol.co.uk/RWAPSoftware/Pcadventures.html but will be moving to www.rwapadventures.com I had an email from Rich Mellor at RWAP Software telling me about his site. He sells the QL range of adventures - Lost Kingdom of Zkul, West etc and is also converting them to run under Windows. Here's some info from his site: Adventure Software for Windows One of the greatest escapism programs ever conceived was the adventure program, where you could enter a whole new computer generated world and control a hero to overcome various difficult, thought provoking obstacles in order to achieve a specific goal. Many different adventures have been written for a whole host of computers over the years, but they have become increasingly harder to find. Traditional adventure programs are mainly text adventures where the words have to describe the world to you, as seen through the eyes of your character, but also some adventures encompass pictures of each location. Control of characters is generally simple, with two word phrases such as OPEN DOOR or NORTH to act as commands, but some adventures allow for much longer phrases such as OPEN DOOR AND THEN GO NORTH. RWAP Services have now released various adventure games, written for the Sinclair QL computer and converted to run under Windows following the release of QL2K, a Sinclair QL emulator by Jimmy Montesinos and Raphael Zhou in France, based on the freeware QLAY emulator written by Jan Venema in the Netherlands. These adventures are all released as shareware. You can download a fully working version in order to try out the various adventures (subject to maximum playing times), and then register for a small amount to receive a key which will allow you to play the full version to your hearts content. RWAP Services Shareware Adventures The Lost Kingdom of Zkul (Text Adventure) An exciting real-time text adventure, which is probably the biggest selling program of all time for the Sinclair QL. The name of this adventure is based on a skull-like rock formation that marks the entrance to the ancient dwelling place of the Dwarves, an enormous labyrinth of tunnels inside a mountain. The caves are rumoured to be full of treasures and it is your task to find the entrance, collect all the treasure and bring it to your friend Eldomir in the forest. This is a classic, challenging adventure, with hundreds of locations and a huge vocabulary. It is set in real time with traps, puzzles and mazes - and a special note-pad feature to help you! REVIEWS "Zkul is an excellent adventure and its size means that the further you get into it, the harder it gets... This is the standard the others have to beat." Micro Adventurer November 1984 "ZKUL has a bewildering number of settings, some vexing logic tests, a full cast and an entirely satisfactory store of treasures." QL User December 1984 "from the feel of the initials moves and encounters I am sure expert adventurers will not be disappointed." New Atari ST User Jan/Feb 1986 West (Text Adventure) A very popular real-time text adventure and one of the earliest released on the Sinclair QL. You find yourself in the old-west, with only a trusty six-shooter and a steed as friends. You are on the track of a notorious gang of bank robbers who have gone to ground near an abandoned mining town deep in Indian territory. Your task is to outwit and outgun the robbers, collect as much loot as possible and piece together clues on how to escape. Can you survive this harsh environment and escape from this gold-rush town?? You have to cope with Red Indians, bank robbers and rattlesnakes. A demanding and exiting text adventure for the experienced games-player, using over 200 words and as many phrases. There are over 130 locations to search - not all of them easy to find. Events happen in real-time outside your control - Indians charge, rattle-snakes slither past and robbers appear and shoot you. How long can you survive? REVIEWS "WEST places you exactly where you'd expect, surrounded by vultures, tumbleweed and 'injuns'... The basics of the adventure are well-regulated. The objects are scattered before every new game, but, if you're killed, sensibly left by the body where your reincarnated self can find them again. The locations are numerous and subject to random visitations from tumbleweed, rattlers, bad-tempered bank robbers and your trusty but fickle steed." QL User December 1984 "Some events seem slightly illogical like your horse who acts like a homesick homing pigeon by wandering off and then always finding you a few moves later wherever you may be, but in general there are plenty of puzzles to solve in time honoured tradition..... Should prove entertaining for all." New Atari ST User Jan/Feb 1986 The Prawn (Humorous Text Adventure) This is a text adventure with a lot of humour from Mert (Martin Hopkins). You play the role of a Prawn who was scooped up in a trawler net and you end up on a strange land, wearing a copper tail-band, which must have been placed on you during your sleep. Apart from noticing that you can now move about on land nearly as easily as you could in the Sea, you have an odd sensation that you have been here before... Based upon the popular original Sinclair QL adventure (the Pawn), this is a light-hearted spoof adventure with three scenarios to explore and should keep you occupied for many a long evening. If you are looking for the original PAWN (by Magnetic Scrolls), a Magnetic Scrolls interpreter for various platforms can be downloaded from our site and you can also download the files needed to play a version of Pawn and many other Magnetic Scrolls adventures, although you will need to own the original adventures in order to use this interpreter as they remain copyright..
