Super Jigsaw Wyland's Whales Demo downloaded from www.gamehouse.com Reviewed by Sue In Issue 84 I reviewed Gamehouse's Super Jigsaw Medley and their special Landscapes edition. I saw recently on their site that they have brought out several more specialised packages. These are Wyland, USA and Pets. This collection consists of 40 beautiful images by the environmental artist Wyland. They are all images of whales, dolphins and other sea creatures and fish. Some are against a fully underwater backdrop, others have exotic islands in the background. Wyland makes a lot of use of light and this effect comes across strongly in the jigsaws too. Many of the features of Wyland are similar to the other games. Puzzle pieces can be square or traditional jigsaw shape. They can be skewed slightly, a lot, or not at all. A slider lets you set the difficulty level by altering the number of pieces - from 4 to 676! As a further challenge, you can allow the pieces to be rotated. The puzzle's picture is displayed in the top left corner unless you opt to remove it. It can be enlarged if you get stuck. To pick up a piece you just click on it. Then drag and drop it by clicking again. You can start with just the edge pieces if that's the way you prefer to do a jigsaw. When two pieces that belong together touch, they snap together. So just as in a real jigsaw, you can collect related pieces together on different parts of the playing area. The unregistered version lets you plays for just 60 minutes. The hour went much too quickly though I managed to complete four puzzles on easy-medium difficulty levels. I really enjoyed this program, much more than their other puzzles. Would I buy it? Probably not because I still prefer 'proper' jigsaws, that I can sit on the floor to do. The games I'd prefer to play on the PC are ones that I can ONLY play on it. Having said that, I'd recommend you download the demo, if only for the hour's play it allows. - o -
