Reger24.de A quick bit from Sue When you press Ctrl-Alt-Del in Windows, you get a display showing the list of processes that are going on. These can include programs that are currently running and system tasks ticking away in the background. If you're having PC problems, or finding the computer is running slowly or giving memory error messages, it's worth checking out the list to see if throws any light on the problem. I recently did this for a friend whose computer had slowed down. I was able to tell him not to touch certain entries, but to select and exit from others. Some entries such as Explorer and Systray were obvious, others not so. I found a site on the Internet that helped me identify the ones I didn't know. It is Reger24.de at www.reger24.de - the Processes link on the left of the home page takes you to a full list if Windows NT/XP and 2000 processes. Some also apply to earlier versions, of course. Selecting any of them takes you to another page which gives you full details of the file name, type, manufacturer, plus remarks on what it does. I sometimes get strings of entries saying helpctr in my list. Now I know this is to do with Microsoft's Help and Support Centre though I at first I was none the wiser why I could have up to a dozen in the list and no recollection of accessing the Help and Support Centre. But from using this site I decided it might be because I had automatic updating turned on, but no Internet connection. - o -
