Under a Killing Moon - Access Solution by Sue PI Tex Murphy finds himself embroiled in more than he'd bargained for in this 4 CD extravaganza from Access which is the sequel (sort of) to the oldies Mean Streets and Martian Memorandum. The objects used can be combined and "used". In this solution, I have tried to use more human expressions! Day One Get the mail by the door (credit card application, sales flyer and surgery gift certificate). Examine your duff FAX machine on the filing cabinet. Open the bottom right drawer of your desk and get the stamp. Open the bottom left drawer and get the pen. Fill in the credit card application and stamp it. Try to get your gun from the credenza by the door and you'll lose it out the window. Leave your office and go down to Chandler Avenue. Post your application in the post box. Enter Rook's Pawnshop. Tell him you're looking for work and he'll tell you about the robbery the night before. Offer to help and you'll get the job. He shows you where they broke in at the back through a window. Examine the footprint by the doorstep to see it's about a size 14. Move the tumbled garbage can to find a key. Pick up the glass below the window. Examine it to see a red hair. Examine and open the dumpster. Get the radio from the ledge outside it. Examine the radio to find some batteries. Move the planks in the fence for a shortcut to the street. Talk to Chelsee at the news stand about the burglary to hear about a stranger who had bright green eyes and a tattoo of an anchor on his arm. Get the newspaper outside the Brew and Stew and read about the pawnshop robberies. Travel to the Police Station. You'll be thrown out. Go in again and answer A, A, C so he mentions the leads and that the perp is Caucasian, human and has AB negative blood. Go back to Chandler Avenue. Enter the Golden Gate Hotel to meet Ardo and learn that he likes Inspector Burns. Back outside, move the mat outside Rusty's to find the key. Unlock the door and go in. Get the suction dart crossbow from the counter cabinet and the stacking ring from the wall display. Examine it to know it travels a long way when you fill it with water.. Look at, turn on and watch the TV on the left wall. Move the top box behind the counter. Look in the box that was underneath to find a lifesize Rusty the Clown doll. Get it. Get the Inspector Burns mask from behind the counter. Get the key that is taped to the pillar at the right end of the back counter. Use this to unlock the door marked Employees Only in the right hand wall. In here, open the barrel of toxic acid to find poor old Rusty! Get the suction dart from the wall behind the sink and the balloon from inside the sink. Back in the main room, fill it with helium from the nozzle in the middle of the large clown's face on the left wall. Back outside, return to the dumpster in the alley - a bum has turned up. Talk to the bum to find he has a chocolate addiction. Go to the Brew & Stew and talk to Louie. Ask about chocolate to be given a slice of chocolate pie. Go back to the bum, talk to him, make an offer and give him the pie. Ask about the robbery to learn he saw a man that night who was 6' 3" or 6' 4", about 300 pounds. Go back to your office, examine and switch on your Crime Link computer. Fill in the details you've gained - Caucasian, Mutant no, male, 6' 0"-6' 4", 281-320 lbs, red hair, two eyes, green eyes, blood AB-, shoe size 14, anchor tattoo. You're given one name, view the file of Mick Flemm. You also gain 2 bits of info, the name of an informant, Beek Nariz, and the fact that Flemm thought the ghost of Rusty Clown was after him! Go back to the street and ask Chelsee about Beek. She says he hangs round Coit Tower. Walk there (end of the street, left of the hotel.). Meet Beek, comment on his nose and mention Chelsee. Deal for info. Offer the surgery gift certificate. Ask about Rusty and Mick Flemm. He implicates Mick in Rusty's death and says Flemm operates out of the Snow White Warehouse. Go there, it's the old Acme warehouse. Examine the door, it's unlocked. Go in. Go up the stairs. Put the batteries in the Rusty doll and hang it on the pulley hook. Get the key from the wall support just behind the hook. Go back to the ground floor and examine and open the crate under the piece of plywood. Get the fireman's uniform from the crate. Use the key from behind the pulley to unlock the power box on the wall by the crate. Walk towards the open crate and duck to hide in it. ... You hear Flemm coming, hide and throw the power switch. Terrified by "Rusty's ghost", he flees - through the wall! ... Get the bracelet and keys from the table. Use the keys to unlock the storage compartment on the back wall and open it. Get the strongbox and unlock it with the key from the alley to find some jade. Leave the warehouse. Cut scene - learn about the Prophecy, Capricorn and that you're somehow going to be dragged into it! Day Two Oh boy, mail! Pick it up to get your credit card. Travel down to Chandler Avenue and use the card on the door to get into the Electronics shop. Talk to Hamm Underwood behind the counter and ask about FAX machines. Examine the blue light box to see a FAX machine. Use your credit card on the box and get the machine. Take it back to your office and you'll hook it up. A FAX comes through. It's from the Countess Renier. Get and read it. Travel to her mansion. Talk to her and get the job - you need to find a link to the black market to recover her statuette. Back to Chandler Avenue. Talk to Chelsee about the statuette to know Franco Franco probably has it or knows who does. Now go to the police station and ask Malden about Franco Franco to find he deals in stolen merchandise, especially jade. Travel to the pawnshop and ask Rook about Franco Franco and jade. He tells you about the article in the trade paper out the back. Exit to alley. Open recycled paper trash can at back left, get the trade paper. Examine it to get an address for Franco at the Alhambra Theatre. Travel to the theatre. Talk to Franco. Offer the jade. He will answer one question. Ask about the mysterious artifact. You get the name Eddie Ching. Go back to your office. A FAX is waiting. Get it. It's from Franco Franco and says Ching lives in the Knickerbocker building. The police may know which apartment. Go to see Maldon and ask about Knickerbocker. Ching lives on the entire top floor. Travel to the Knickerbocker Building and when you fall past the window you see a sticker saying that Underwood installed the security system. Go back to the Electronics Shop and talk to Hamm Underwood. Fraternize, stall, say you worked on the Law and Order Party system, show manly bravado (C, C, A, A). He tells you how to beat the system. You need a laser blade that they sell there. Use the credit card on the blue light box and get laser blade. Go back to the Knickerbocker. This time you get into the library. Open the closet door and get the geigger trap and the clownfish food. Get the book from on top of the bookcase. Examine the book to find it's a false book with a key inside. Open the fish tank and try to feed the fish with the food. Fill the stacking ring with water from the tank. Open the door and go into the hallway where you see the laser security net and a box at the end with a flashing button. Use the dart in the crossbow and fire it at the button. It pops open the box and you see a lever that needs to be pulled down. Throw the filled ring at it. Yes, you did it! Open the door and enter the study. Get the geigger chow from behind the left green obelisk. Examine the terrarium to see a geigger. Put the geigger chow in the trap. Put the trap in the terrarium to catch the geigger. Get the FAX from the floor under the coffee table. Examine it to see Eddie Ching was born on 10/14/12. Get the capture noose from the alcove. Move the mirror on the wall round the corner to find a steel lock with a key hole. Use Eddie Ching's key in it, you hear a noise from the library. Move the painting by the mirror to find a safe. Open it. Press start, 101412, enter. Get the document and security card. Examine the document to see a list of bidders for an artifact (the statuette?) including L. Percival. Go back to the library. The bookcase has moved to reveal a secret passage. Go through. Examine the statuette which is surrounded by laser beams. Move the painting which is on the right end, middle row, left wall. Look at the security card slot. Use the security card on it. The beams vanish. Move the empty crate and use the capture noose on the statuette. Got it! Head back to your office - unfortunately you forget and leave the statuette in the speeder. On the way back to get it, you are mugged by a man who turns out to be a shapeshifter! Day Three Head down to see Francesca in the Slice of Heaven Pizza. She wants proof that her husband Sal is having an affair. She says she saw the mugging and will give you the info you want if you help her. Agree. She gives you a coded note. Examine it. See Louie in the Brew & Stew and ask about Sal. He says he tore up a note when he was in there and it's in the trash outside. Go out, open the trash can round the corner, get the note and examine it. Put it together again. Using the code, you can translate it and know that you nee d to go to the Golden Gate Hotel and that the bode is Silicon. Try to go into the hotel. Aldo says he's been paid money to keep you out! We know that Aldo likes Inspector Burns and that Inspector Burns has a high voice. Combine the mask and uniform to me a disguise. Armed with your helium filled balloon, enter the hotel again. Tell him you want to inspect the rooms. You find yourself by the suite. Type Silicon on the keypad to get in. Move the yellow painting to find Sal's list of conquests. Unfortunately you can't get it. Go into the music room and get the airfreshener by the window. Examine it to see it has a magnet on it. Play the piano if you want! Go back into the main room and get the foil from the table opposite the music room doors. Go into the bedroom. Get the glass from the closet. Find the camera in the drawer of the desk. You can't take it. Go back to the main room and through to the hot tub. Examine the right vase by the door to see a cork in it. Use the glass on the pool to fill it, then use the filled glass on the vase. You fill the vase and get the cork. Examine the cork to get the wire off it. Go back to the bedroom and pick the locked desk drawer with the wire. Get the shoelace from inside. Return to the hot tub. Move the towel on the floor to see a drain. Examine it to see a screwdriver and roll of film inside the drain. Tie the shoelace to the magnet. Use the magnet-on-a-string to get the screwdriver. Use the screwdriver to open the drain and get the film. Return to the Electronics Shop and examine the blue light box to see a film developing kit. Use your credit card on the blue light box and get the kit. Develop the roll of film in the kit. Examine the photos - incriminating evidence of Sal! Go back to see Francesca and give her the photos. Ask Francesca about the mugging. She says another bloke searched you after you were mugged, he's a mutant called Pug. Go to the Coit Tower and ask Beek about Pug. He says he usually sleeps in a box by the Snow White Warehouse. You go there and hang about. Soon Pug turns up. Talk to him until he mentions the Colonel hiring him. Go to the Colonel's Office. You find him slumped at his desk with a knife in his chest. He tells you about the shapeshifter, the Chameleon, who wants something called the Winter Chip. The Cult wants it before CAPRICORN can use it to foil their plans. He tells you there's a disk by the bookcase ... you rush him to hospital. You return home for a sleep, but inside you meet Eddie Ching and some goons - Eddie Ching is a girl! She wants the statuette back. You tell her it was stolen and she tells you how important it is to get it back. You must find the Chameleon. A cut scene follows between the Chameleon and his boss who are hunting for the chip, and they know you're involved. Day Four The next day, you decide to find the disk and work out whether the Countess was for real or not. Head back to the Countess' mansion; it's empty. So she WAS a fake! Examine the bird on the chandelier, it's a bald eagle and it's carrying a cigarette case in its claws. Distract it with the foil and get the case. Examine it to find a single cigarette. Get the watch from the mantelpiece. Examine it to find it has a secret compartment. Get the paper scraps from the waste paper bin. Examine them and fit them together. Unlike other reconstructed notes in the game, this one doesn't seal together once repaired - a bug, presumably. Anyway, it mentions the Bastion of Sanctity, wherever that is! Back to the Colonel's Office. Open the bottom right vase on the display case and get the disk. Lift the picture frame on the table by the window and examine it to see the Colonel's "squeeze"! Get the greeting card from the bottom left desk drawer and examine it. Get the envelope from the bottom right drawer and examine it. Put 2 and 2 together to work out that the Colonel's lady is Melahn Tode. You now have her address. Turn on the computer and put in the emergency disk. You learn more about CAPRICORN, GRS (Genetic Research Systems), the Moon Child (the cult's biosphere) and the Winter Chip which contains a virus to destroy the Moon Child. You get the name Eva Schanzee and are told there is more info in his safe. Move the airforce picture on the wall by the door and filing cabinet to find his safe. Head to Melahn's apartment. Talk to her and give her the greeting card. Ask her about the Colonel and she'll tell you about the package he left with her which contained a key. Ask about the key and she'll give it to you. Go back to the Colonel's Office and unlock the filing cabinet with the key. Open it and get the file of coded documents. Move the magazines by the door and get the UPEX return receipt. The parcel has gone to Melahn. Return to her and ask about the receipt and she gives you a paper with numbers on it. Examine it (5-7-1). Return to the Colonel's office and turn the left disk 5, middle 7, right 1. It opens. Get the code book from inside. Use the book to decode the documents. Read them to learn about Paul Dubois, Alaynah Moore at the Roadside Motel, Eva and the Chameleon. Eva and Paul have vanished. Travel to the Roadside Motel and talk to Alaynah. After a conversation, she gives you a passkey to GRS. You tell her to stay inside. Travel to GRS. This bit is tricky! There are 4 rooms to explore, the Supervisor's Office, and Research and Development are to your left, Tucker's Office and Conference Room to your right. A security robot patrols at regular intervals. There is one safe place to hide from it in each room. These places are: in the Supervisor's Office, behind the partition in the back right corner, duck right down. In R&D, hide between Paul's desk and the wall, as low as possible. In Tucker's Office duck down behind the plants in the left corner. In the Conference Room, duck down behind the desk. First enter the Supervisor's Office. Eva's desk is here. Duck down under her desk to find her computer access card. Examine the wall safe; it needs a 6 digit code. Go down the corridor to R&D. Get the hex wrench from the floor just in front of you. Get the team pennant from the left wall and examine it to find Paul's computer access card. Get the small TV from the desk in front of Paul's. Examine it; it only works when hooked up to a laser disc player. Switch on Paul's computer and insert his card. Read all the files about GRS, the Crusade, the Moon Child, initiation to the Cult, the secret doctrine and the history of the Brotherhood. Go back to the Supervisor's Office. Remove the air vent into the high security section with the hex wrench. Inside you see a red button to open the door and a roast beef sandwich. Put the geigger through the vent, he goes for the sandwich, hits the button, opening the door, but incinerates himself. In the high security area, open the bottom left drawer on the right hand desk to find a passkey and the drawer above it for a laser disc. Examine the memo from Tucker on the left desk, and get Eva's disk which is on it. Turn on Eva's computer, use her computer card and her minidisk. Watch Eva's message. Head to Tucker's office and open the door by using the passkey on the panel at the side. Open the bottom left drawer in his office and examine the sticky tape with 1, 4, 2, 2, 3, 5 on it. Open the bottom right drawer and get the match. Examine the access panel to the safe, it is voice controlled you only Marcus Tucker's voice will access it. Go back to the Supervisors' office and open the safe using start, 142235, enter. Get the vial and examine it, it's viral powder for cigarettes. Use it on the cigarette to make a lethal cigarette. Now head to the Conference Room. Examine the video screen and turn it on using the button on the table. Examine the cupboards underneath the screen; one is locked. Open the bottom left drawer of the desk and get the laser disk player. Examine the ledge going round the room on the left to find the key for the cupboard. Open the cupboard, turn on the video inside. Back in Tucker's Office, put the laserdisc in the player and combine it with the TV to make loaded AV equipment. Examine it to hear Marcus Tucker say his name. Turn on the access panel by the safe and use the loaded A/V equipment on it. The safe opens but your DNA doesn't match. There's a security alert so belt back behind the plants again until the security robot arrives and leaves. Go into the safe and get the video and Buddha with Eva's initials on it from the table. Examine the bin and get the shredded note. Examine the Buddha to find the Winter Chip inside it. Hide the chip in the watch. Go back to the Conference Room. Put the video tape in the video recorder. You watch a video showing the effect of the virus in smoke and learn how the Cult are planning to use it on the whole Earth. You go back to your office to sleep. Unknown to you, the Chameleon kidnaps Alaynah. The Chameleon appears in your office and tells you what he's done - and tells you Pug's head is in your water cooler! Day Five Piece together the shredded note to get location of the mysterious Bastion of Sanctity. Travel there. You see Alaynah held in a forcefield, guarded by the Chameleon who is having a smoke. You realise you must distract him, then get rid of him for good. Walk along the right hand passage. Get the vee clamp from the wall just before the suits of armour. Walk round the an alcove on the left side and examine the gargoyle on the wall. Get the eye (gemstone). Get the bungee cord from the wall a little bit further back towards the entrance. Head back to the gargoyle head and look up to see a shelf with a vase on it. Tie the cord to the clamp to make a slingshot and load it with the gemstone. Before you do anything else, light the cigarette with the match. Fire the gemstone at the vase. Dash like crazy to the exit. Look into the room to see the Chameleon has gone to see what the noise was. Into the room quickly and examine the ashtray to see the Chameleon's cigarette in it. Put the lit lethal in the ashtray. You hide and watch the Chameleon take the bait. He still brags even as he croaks. Once he's dead, examine the force field that's holding Alaynah. Move the shield on the right wall and flip the switch behind it. Alaynah is released. Before she goes, she tells you that the Chameleon was due to meet someone called Ferrel Pus at the Broken Skull. Watch the cut scene then on to ... The Broken Skull, an off-planet bar. When the bartender talks to you, order a manly drink, may cash and make a casual bribe. Give her the 100 dollar bill. Name drop. Be unprepared when asked for the token (which you are, of course!). Go back to the Roadside Motel and ask about the token. She says the chameleon said it is an old silver dollar. Return to Rook's Pawnshop and ask about a silver dollar. He gives you one. Go back to the Broken Skull and be casually positive. Give her the dollar. You head into the back room and meet Ferrel Pus. Sadly he recognises you but you have a chance to survive and win a trip to the Moon Child by playing his Ferrelette Table. Beat it four times. The balls you want are top right, centre, bottom and bottom. He tells you to get a drink - a house special - before you leave. Be agreeable to the bartender, order the house special, drink it - it knocks you out ... we aren't surprised are we? Day Six Arriving at the Moon Child you are dumped in a guarded arboretum and meet an image of Lowell Percival who explains their plans. When left alone, you find that everything has been taken from you except the watch with the Winter Chip. Walk forward and get the loose rock from the wall ahead and slightly to your left. Open the door in the left wall and get the lighter fluid. Walk to the front of the arboretum and get the flint that is sitting on the low right wall. Get the rake from the border at the back left of the arboretum. Hide it in the pile of leaves by the door. Empty the lighter fluid over the leaves, then hit the rock and flint to make a spark. Light the leaves. The guard comes in, stamps on the leaves and knocks himself out with the rake. You make a quick exit. You're now in the corridors of the Moon Child. Head forward and left to find the Observation Deck. Find a locked panel on the back wall to the right of the door and, to the left, a recessed button. Get the glass and flex straw from the table. Examine it to get the straw. Push the button with the straw to open a panel giving access to the Moon Child's main computer. Go back down the hall and find the emergency access, a door that opens from the other side, a door to the residential decks and the stasis room. Get the piece of pipe from the deck by the residential area doorway and then enter the stasis room. You find Eva in a cryonic chamber. A console nearby has buttons and sliders. This bit is tricky, you can only do it by trial and error. Turn it on. Increase the temperature to 55. Increase the oxygen to 12%. Adrenaline. Electric shock. (Phase 1 complete). Increase temperature to 85. Sodium pentathol. Adrenaline. Increase oxygen to 14% (Phase 2 complete). Increase temperature to 98.6%. Increase oxygen to 16%. Adrenaline. Sodium bicarbonate. Eva comes round and you tell her that you have 45 mins to stop the Cult. She gives you a key and instructions for what to do with the Winter Chip and says she'll cause a power surge at the right time. All you have to do then is escape. Examine the paper. You need a link-up computer and cable. Go back to the observation deck and use the key to unlock the panel. Move the Links 986 box (!) and get the linkup computer. Move the tree in the front right corner of the room. Use the pipe to lever the slab which was underneath it and get one of the cables you find below. Go to the computer panel. Join the cable onto the linkup computer and put the Winter Chip in it. Plug the linkup computer into the Moon Child's computer .... The system starts to be affected by the virus and chaos breaks out. You dash down the corridors and just escape in time with Eva as the Moon Child self-destructs. Back on Earth, you meet up with the Colonel who is offering you a partnership when who should turn up but Eva. Uh oh, the Colonel heads off with her so you can wave goodbye to the partnership. Instead you take on dance students ... cha cha cha! ... until the next job turns up. - o -
