Editorial Welcome to the penultimate issue of SynTax. I can't believe there's only one more issue to go. Thanks to everyone who's been asking about my move. Well, I'm still at Invicta Parade but have my fingers crossed that everything will go through in the next two weeks. I only have until the end of the month or the guy I'm buying from loses his deposit and mortgage on a property in Spain. I'm at the stage now where some problem crops up each day and has to be solved. You wouldn't believe how many mistakes there are on forms etc. I'll be keeping the same phone number and having mail redirected for a year after I move so you'll still be able to contact me. The last two months have been very stressful and hectic. I've had about half my stuff packed for over a month. But I'm not packing anything else until I get a date and KNOW it's going to happen. I decided to get ahead of myself with SynTax so it didn't get caught up with the move which is why this issue is pretty much on time unlike the last few. As with previous issues, I've been playing a lot of demos to be able to review them. Arcanum and Heaven and Hell were this issue's favourites. Two quite different games, one RPG, one 'god' game. I also downloaded Zkul, a PC conversion of a QL game I'd fancied playing years ago when it was first released. Despite its age I found it very enjoyable - a text adventure in classic style - though you can't get very far into the demo version which is time limited. RWAP Adventures have converted others of their QL games, the Prawn and West. I might look at one of these in the last issue. I had an interesting email recently from Jon Cutts who wrote Haunted House many years ago when he was 12 years old. He'd found the SynTax site (as so many do - shame none of the visitors ever took out a sub, the mag might have continued!) because Tom Lorimer and James Judge had both reviewed his game. The back issues are temporarily offline while I work out what to do with the adventure side of the SynTax site and he asked if I'd send him the relevant files. I don't know how happy he'll be as neither review was complimentary (JJ's was positively scathing), though both were well written and very amusing - unless maybe you're the author! Bev also named his game as number 2 in her bottom 10 adventures. Well, I think that's it for this time. Next issue I'll make the final SynTax Contributor of the Year award. I'll also be offering the full set of issues 1-90 on CD on a special CD. See you then. Best wishes Sue - o -
