SPAG www.sparkynet.com/spag/ Article by Sue With only one issue of SynTax to go, I'm planning on telling you about some useful sites on the net that you can use once SynTax is no more. If you're interested in text adventures SPAG, the Society for the Promotion of Adventure Games, is a great site to visit. It also covers games that have some graphics but it is primarily for text games. It mostly consists of game reviews, indexing them by title, author or reviewer. Roughly every quarter a newsletter is emailed to subscribers and back issues can be read on the site. These contained the latest reviews at that time with scores and 'picks of the month'. The current issue is number 36, March 16th 2004. It has six reviews - Amnesia, Bad Machine, Hamlet, Insight, Shadowgate and To Hell in a Hamper. There are also letters to the editor, news snippets and a spoilers section. The scores and picks section have vanished. Other interesting sections include the Breathers Wall. On this you can post a 150 word description of a room to set its atmosphere. There are several links to other sites and a New Releases Shelf where you can read a list of the games released in the last 3 to 6 months. - o -
