First set up your PayPal account at www.paypal.co.uk

I have a premium account and that works fine for me. It lets me take credit and debit card payments too.  There is a small fee when people send you money.

Requesting Money

Once you have an account and someone wants to pay you money, log onto your account and select the 'Request Money' tab.

Type the purchaser’s email address in the ‘Recipient's Email’ window.

Type the FULL amount in the ‘Amount window’ as 9.95 for example.

Make sure ‘Currency’ is set to ‘Pounds Sterling’.

In the ‘Type’ window use the drop down arrow to select ‘Goods (other)’

You can type into the ‘Email Subject’ and ‘Note’ windows to clarify matters eg ‘Invoice’ in the ‘Email Subject’ line and details of the purchase in the ‘Note’ window.

Press ‘Continue’.

Check the details are right. Press ‘Request Money’ if so or ‘Edit’ to correct them.

If the person you’re invoicing hasn’t already got a PayPal account they’ll be told how to open one.

PayPal Invoices

This is a new idea that I haven't used and reached from the ‘Request Money’ tab by selecting the link for ‘Invoicing Tool’. The form is a bit more complicated because you can ask for payment for several items at once.

To withdraw money from your account

Ok, you’ve got money in your account and want to put it into your bank account. This is what I do and you should have the same options.

Select the ‘Withdraw’ tab.

Select ‘Transfer fund to your bank account’.

Type the amount to withdraw into the ‘Amount’ box. Eg 100.50. Check the bank details are right. If you withdraw more than £50 there is no charge.

Press Continue. Check the details – press ‘Submit’ or ‘Cancel’. The transfer takes about a week.

This information is correct as of 5th June 2006
