STOP PRESS - ideal for cat and dog breeders

If you want a presence on the Internet but don't want the expense of your own domain name and lots of webspace, I can design a single page site for you and put it onto my own site in the format: www.syntax2000.co.uk/yourname/yourname.html

The page would have a basic design of header, optional logo, your choice of text, a few photos if you want to add them. I would also add keywords and a description for the search engines to use plus an optional counter/tracker.There are three demo pages here, here and here: These are for cat and dog breeders but they could equally apply to other uses or professions.

The cost would be just £60 for the design work and uploading plus £25 for the first year's hosting. After the first year the only cost would be ongoing hosting of approx. £25 per year. Any updates to the page would also incur a small charge.

Building on this, if you would prefer a more complex
multipage site as part of my own site, this can be done for the normal price stated below plus maintenance which would also include hosting. This would still work out considerably cheaper for you than buying your own domain name, webspace and hosting. The search engines would find your pages just as easily as if you'd bought your own domain.

With the increase in popularity of the Internet, most businesses, organizations and individuals have web sites. I can create one for you at a reasonable price if you don’t want to do it yourself. Remember, you will need to arrange your own web space or it may come free of charge through your Internet provider.

If you want to buy a domain name and associated webspace - which looks much more professional - I've written a potted guide to the process and you can read it here. Later you will need to renew services and information on that is here.

If you want to accept PayPal payments from your website I've written another potted guide you can reach here.

The charge for a web site will depend on the number of pages you want and whether or not you can provide the information on disk so that it doesn’t have to be typed up. There may also be the usual charges for scanning graphics or tables etc for adding to the site. I can also maintain the site and upload the information for you on request. If you want to do this yourself a third potted guide is here.

It needn't be expensive to have a presence on the web. If you want a simple site, one page might be enough.  I charge around £95 for the design work - this includes giving you a few different layouts and schemes to choose from, adding a counter and tracker if required etc. Once this has been agreed, it is £20 for laying out and uploading each page to your own webspace if you can provide typed text for me to work with. Otherwise there is a charge for typing up. So a one-page site would be £115 (layout plus one page).

A complete package

If you want me to buy a co.uk domain and hosting for you and then layout and upload a site, the full cost for a three page site (on UK2.net's current prices) as of 19.2.2008 would be:
Domain + hosting via UK2.net - £110
Design - £95
3 pages @ £20 each - £60 (add £20 for every extra page)
Total - £265

And then what?

If you don't want to maintain your own site I can do this for you. The price varies according to the size of the site and other factors. As a guide, for individuals the cost of site maintenance is £20/quarter and for organisations £20/month, for sites that I also laid out. If it is a pre-existing site laid out by someone else the cost is £33/quarter (individual) or £33/month (organisation). This includes making changes to existing pages - adding new membership details for example or changing a page advertising forthcoming events. Completely new pages are charged at £25 each because they have to be integrated into the existing site. If you don't want to pay a regular fee a one-off update is a bas
ic £20 per page.

Lost Sites

Sometimes it happens - you forget to renew your webspace and your site gets wiped when the space expires. I can upload a 'lost' site for £20. This includes minor editing if necessary.

Add-ons

I can add sound effects and animated graphics to the site, or set up a bulletin board / forum or add password protection to particular pages. Some features incur an extra charge.

For example, I
can add a form (for contact, feedback etc) that will email its results to you. The layout can be customised to your own needs and integrated into your site. This add-on costs £15 for the initial layout and then £15 each year.

Please contact me for a full estimate. In the mean time, here are a few of the sites I've worked on so you can visit them and see the quality. Some are up for visual info only as they have since lapsed.

Disclaimer: I am happy to take on sites designed and laid out by someone else. However we all work differently and there is a possibility of complications working with someone else's code. I back up websites before working on them, for security. But I must point out that work done on someone else's site is at your own risk.
